All aboard as we travel East to Belle Isle, a beautiful, natural island located in the Detroit River and home to the oldest conservatory and aquarium in the United States.  Time allowing you may wish to stroll through the newly opened Piet Oudolf Garden.   Both artistic and ecological, Oudolf chose perennials, grasses, shrubs, and trees for their hardiness, durability, and ever-changing textures and colors for enjoyment in all four seasons.

Pewabic Pottery

Continuing East we come to Historic Indian Village.  This neighborhood will surely captivate you as you hear stories and see the homes of many of Detroit’s most early distinguished residents.  See the birth place of Henry Ford and the “Wedding Present House” the home of Whinfred Dodge a gift from her father Jack Dodge.  You will immediately sense the luxury and opulent lifestyle of this neighborhood and its early residents.  As we tour the neighborhood from the comfort of our bus or private van, we will note the many Pewabic tiles used to adorn the facades of these magnificent homes.

Last stop –Self-guided tour the authentically Detroit Pewabic Pottery Studio.   Pewabic is a National Historic Landmark pottery founded in Detroit in 1903. Today it continues to be an active working pottery, architectural tile studio, ceramic arts education center and vibrant cultural destination that attracts visitors from around the world.
