It’s time to explore this super-sized artistic medium and its ability to spark not only meaningful conversations, but also controversy along the way.

Join us as we explore and contrast a selection of the great murals of Detroit. From vintage murals created by Hispanic artists in Mexicantown to modern era murals created throughout the last decade, and learn about the creative muralists who bring street art to life.

Sintax Comic Detroit Tour

Stroll through Mexicantown to see the contributions of great Mexican muralists reminiscent of Diego Rivera style, whose influence on Depression Era and Art Deco murals can still be found today in many public and private spaces. 

Here about contemporary mural artists — such as street artists Dabls, Sintex, Fel3000ft, Pat Perry, Robert Sestok, Tyree Guyton, Shepard Fairey, Sheefy McFly, Sydney G. James and Bakpak plus many other local and international artists. 

Explore BLKOUT Walls from the comfort of a bus or private van.  BLKOUT Walls Festival occurred in summer 2021 and 2023 this week-long mural festival provided by Black mural artists, created many murals throughout the North End and New Center districts. More than twenty vibrant murals were produced within the perimeters of the North End.  This initial festival will be the seed of an arts-based economic development, or creative economy, within the North End community.

The Islandview festival, hosted by 1xMurals, took place for the past sic years in the Eastern Market neighborhood, where 1xMurals was headquartered until 2018, when they relocated to Islandview.

30 participating artists were tasked recently to bring some color to the barren exterior walls of the new DTE Islandview substation.

A visit to Rebel Nell a local organization that seeks out women who have struggled to find and retain employment. These women are the Creative Designers that create wearable artistic jewelry from fallen layers of graffiti.  Original one-of-a-kind jewelry items will be available for purchase.
